The team announced four new additions to the coaching staff on Friday, with Ryan Mougenel, Jordan Smith and Jason Krog joining as assistant coaches, and Andrew Shaw serving as assistant to the video coach.
“Finalizing our coaching staff is another important step for our organization,” general manager Ryan Johnson said in a statement. “When we started this process with Manny, we wanted to find quality people first and foremost, who are good teachers and have intelligent hockey minds. We have assembled a group that can help us build a solid foundation, connect with both our veterans and younger players, and put in place the system and style of play that Manny wants to see on the ice.”
Moungenel previously spent eight seasons with the AHL’s Providence Bruins, five of them as head coach.
Smith is familiar with Johnson and Malhotra — the former GM and head coach, respectively, of the Abbotsford Canucks — as he spent the previous two seasons with AHL Abbotsford as an assistant.
Krog, meanwhile, is being elevated to assistant coach from his previous position as skills and skating coach for both the Vancouver Canucks and Abbotsford Canucks across the past two seasons.
Shaw, who joins as an assistant to current Canucks video coach Ian Beckenstein, spent two seasons as Abbotsford’s video coach.
Smith, Krog and Shaw were all part of Malhotra’s AHL staff during Abbotsford’s run to capture the 2025 Calder Cup.
