It didn’t take long for Alejandro Kirk to find his footing as he returned to game action on Wednesday.
The Toronto Blue Jays backstop went 1-for-2 with a home run and a walk as he began a rehab assignment with single-A Dunedin.
Batting third and serving as Dunedin’s designated hitter, Kirk worked a five-pitch walk in the first inning. He then led off the third his next time up, lining a 3-2 slider over the wall in right field for a solo homer. In his final plate appearance, Kirk grounded out to second base.
He was pinch-hit for by Canadian Blue Jays prospect Sam Shaw in the seventh inning.
Along with Kirk, Toronto reliever Yimi García pitched for Dunedin on Wednesday, striking out and walking one during a scoreless inning.
García, who has been out since late in the 2025 season after undergoing elbow surgery, threw 14 pitches and averaged 94.2 m.p.h. with his fastball. The outing was his third rehab appearance of the year after previously pitching for the FCL Blue Jays on May 7 and 29.
Kirk is working back to the Blue Jays after fracturing his thumb in an early April game against the Chicago White Sox. Before going down with the injury, he slashed .150/.227/.350 with one home run through his first five games of the season.
The seven-year MLB veteran is coming off his second career all-star season in 2025, when he posted a .769 OPS and hit 15 homers in 130 games.
Kirk is expected to catch on Thursday and have a day off on Friday before playing through the weekend with Dunedin.
