Toronto FC is adding to its depth for a crucial showdown against Lionel Messi and Inter Miami.
The Reds announced Saturday that they’ve signed TFC II’s Micah Chisholm, Fletcher Bank and Jahmarie Nolan to short-term agreements for Saturday’s showdown against the third-place Miami.
TFC is currently dealing with a handful of injuries to key players such as right-back Richie Laryea, forward Josh Sargent and midfielder Jose Cifuentes, forcing the team to call up players from its MLS NEXT Pro affiliate squad.
Each MLS team is allowed to sign players 25 or younger from their affiliate sides to a maximum of four short-term agreements per season (up to four-day contracts) to cover temporary roster shortages. In a showdown against Atletico Ottawa in the Canadian Cup on Tuesday, TFC signed five players to short-term agreements.
Chisholm, a 21-year-old defender from Markham, Ont., made his MLS debut against the San Jose Earthquakes and played 45 minutes in the 1-1 draw.
Bank, a 23-year-old midfielder from Bakersfield, Calif., has yet to play in MLS but has three goals and five assists in seven games for TFC II.
Nolan, a 16-year-old forward from Saint Catherine, Jamaica, would be one of the youngest players to debut for Toronto should he suit up on Saturday. He has four goals and one assist in six games at the MLS NEXT Pro level this year.
TFC is currently eighth in the Eastern Conference with a 3-3-5 record but hasn’t earned a win in its last five MLS contests.
