Milwaukee Bucks’ representation at All-Star weekend just got slashed in half.
Star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo is reportedly sidelined through at least next week due to a calf strain and he will miss the NBA All-Star game, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Antetokounmpo, a now nine-time All-Star, has already missed three consecutive games due to the lingering injury. According to Charania, the former two-time MVP is expected to return to action shortly after the week-long All-Star break.
The 30-year-old Bucks star has played in 41 games this season, averaging 31.8 points, 12.2 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 1.3 blocks. He’s second in the NBA for average scoring, seventh in rebounds and 21st in blocks. Of the seven players attempting at least 20 field goals a game, his 60.8 per cent conversion rate ranks No 1.
Antentokounmpo has been an All-Star starter in each of the nine years he’s been selected, and in 2024-25, he led all vote-getters for a third consecutive season. Taking that mantle from LeBron James, who previously held that distinction for seven straight years (2017-2023).
The “Greek Freak” was also the only player to receive over four million fan votes this season.
Milwaukee will still be represented at All-Star weekend by guard Damian Lillard, who was selected as a reserve. The Bucks are currently 27-23 and fifth in the Eastern Conference. They have three games left before the All-Star break, starting with a back-to-back homestand on Sunday and Monday against the Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors, before visiting the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday.
