Tyreek Hill’s agent believes the star receiver was just caught up in the heat of the moment after Sunday’s game when he indicated he wanted out of Miami.
Drew Rosenhaus appeared on The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday to discuss his client’s situation with the Dolphins.
Rosenhaus said Hill deserves credit and explained how he broke his wrist during training camp and continued to play despite doctors telling him to have season-ending surgery.
“Tyreek is very passionate,” Rosenhaus said. “Anyone that I’ve ever represented that was great was passionate. They cared. What you see with Tyreek is very genuine. He wants to win. It’s not good enough for him not to make the playoffs. He’s very passionate.
“I think at the end of the day, he’s committed to this Dolphin football team. He had an excellent meeting with (general manager) Chris Grier and (coach) Mike McDaniel. I believe that Tyreek is a great asset to the Dolphins, and I think he’s the least guy that people should be worried about for this organization. They have many more worries. Tyreek Hill is not one of them.”
Hill spent the first six seasons of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs, winning Super Bowl LIV in 2020. He was traded to the Dolphins in 2022 and signed a four-year, $120 million contract extension with the team.
The 30-year-old led the league last season with 1,799 receiving yards and 13 receiving touchdowns.
Hill had 939 yards and six TDs this year.
Miami (8-9) missed the playoffs following Sunday’s 32-20 loss to the New York Jets. Hill caught only two passes for 20 yards and did not play in the fourth quarter.
“For me, I have to do what’s best for me and my family, if that’s here or wherever the case may be,” Hill told reporters after the game. “I’m (going to) open that door for myself. I’m opening the door.
“I’m out, bro. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, I’ve got to do what’s best for my career. … I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there.”
Grier said he met with Hill on Monday and although the receiver didn’t retract his comments, he didn’t ask for a trade either.
“They were (productive) conversations,” Grier said. “I will keep those between us. The one thing I would say is, in a frustrating season, he was very emotional in a game where we had a chance, coming back from 2-6. All of that with him playing through his (wrist) injury just kind of bubbled to a point.”
McDaniel said his relationship with Hill is fine, but they need to “clear the air.”
“I think the competitive spirit of his can represent postgame, especially in a season or a game that nobody likes, it can allude to a relationship being one way,” McDaniel said. “I was very direct with him. He was very honest, and it was great terms that we were discussing.
“We discussed multiple things, including without wavering, that it’s not acceptable to leave a game and won’t be tolerated in the future, and he embraced accountability. I wouldn’t say there’s necessarily anything to fix, but we had to clear the air in a rough and tumultuous situation.”
