Colts QB Anthony Richardson out vs. Giants, Joe Flacco to start

Anthony Richardson’s up-and-down sophomore year just got a bit more erratic.

The Indianapolis Colts quarterback is set to miss the Week 17 matchup against the New York Giants as he deals with back and foot ailments, the team announced Saturday.

According to head coach Shane Steichen, Richardson has been dealing with soreness all week and was unable to participate in practice. He was listed as questionable ahead of the game, but was officially ruled out Saturday.

The 22-year-old has struggled with various injuries this season, missing two games while dealing with a hip injury and then was benched in Weeks 9 and 10 after poor play.

So far this season, the former Florida Gator has thrown for 1,814 yards with eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions while adding 499 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.

Flacco, meanwhile, is in line to get his fifth start of the season. The former comeback player of the year has been solid in his spot-starts for Indianapolis this year, throwing for 1,167 yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions.

The 39-year-old former Super Bowl MVP joined the Colts on a one-year, $8.7 million deal after leading the Cleveland Browns to the playoffs last season in replacement of Deshaun Watson.

The Colts carry a 7-8 record into their Week 17 matchup against the Giants and are outside of the playoff picture looking in. They’re currently two games behind the Denver Broncos, and will be eliminated with either a loss or a Denver win.
