Frances Tiafoe is giving Carlos Alcaraz a hard time at the Centre Court. With his sudden jump in form, he has completely stunned the spectators. His close ones are cheering for him from his box and they are out here in numbers today. Even the diehard Tiafoe fans are intrigued by seeing a number of new faces in his team. One standout face is that of his fitness trainer.
Fitness trainers are always a crucial part of one’s team. In fact, several elite players opt for multiple trainers. However, for Tiafoe, TC Costello would be more than enough. The mystery man sitting in his box with a cap is doing wonders.
TC Costello is a famous name in Washington, Tiafoe’s home town. His day job is running the fitness program at the Junior Tennis Champions Center, the suburban Washington, DC complex. Costello’s father happened to be the maintenance man at the same Center, which helped him fetch the job.
Tiafoe is pretty stern when it comes to hiring coaches. Recently, NY Times reported that Tiafoe wanted a player or a coach who had reached the mountaintop. However, Tiafoe cannot overlook the famous fitness trainer from his own home town who runs a famous YouTube Channel. Last year, when Tiafoe’s popularity had shot up, Costello also revealed how it affected his results. He said, “Frances admitted to us that [the fame] might have gotten to him a little bit. But honestly, he’s dealt with it pretty well. Early in his career, he went down after he went up, and I think that experience has helped him. He’s like, ‘I’m not gonna let that happen again.”
TC Costello’s contributions in fast tracking Tiafoe’s recovery for Wimbledon shouldn’t go under the radar.
Frances Tiafoe’s Nasty Fall at Queen’s Club Championship
Tiafoe suffered a severe injury, less than two weeks before Wimbledon at Queen’s. Many experts had doubts about his Wimbledon participation but Tiafoe stumped everyone by showing up. He wears knee help on his right leg and is doing wonders at the Championship. Renowned British journalist James Gray was stunned seeing Tiafoe’s turnaround.
He tweeted, “A week ago I watched Frances Tiafoe play a practice match in which he could barely walk from the baseline to his chair.”

Incredible that he is now two sets to one up on the defending #Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz…

Tiafoe is now reaping the rewards of showing faith in Costello. The Washington residence has shown up for all his Wimbledon matches and turns out to be the backbone of his coaching team.
