This year Wimbledon is offering a bunch of fresh young talents taking charge on the court with their immense brilliance. New Zealand’s Lulu Sun aka Lulu Radovcic is one such player who impressed all by reaching the round of 16 as a Kiwi woman after 65 years. Following Sun’s incredible performance, everyone is excited to see her game against Britain’s Emma Raducanu. As she gears up to achieve another feat, her elder sister Phenomena Radovcic also catches a lot of the spotlight giving hints about how tennis runs in the family.
Sun is all set to play Wimbledon’s round of 16 against Emma Raducanu today at the Center Court. She defeated China’s Zhu Lin by 7(7)- 6(4) and 7(8)- 6(6) in the third round and impressed everyone with her brilliant playstyle. Following this New Zealander tennis player’s performance, her talented sister also makes it to the headlines showing her excellence in the same field. This WTA star’s sister Phenomena Radovcic is also a tennis player representing Switzerland.
Radovcic played an ITF match in Curitiba, Brazil, and lost against Italy’s Bianca Turati in the qualifiers round 1 in 2016. That same year she also attended another ITF match against Romania’s Daiana Negreanu and lost in the qualifiers round 2. In 2014, Radovcic played in an ITF tournament in Egypt and reached the round of 16. This Swiss player participated in professional tournaments till 2016.
More than singles, Sun’s elder sister performed well in doubles. In 2015, she partnered with Janine Tiszolczy from Germany and reached the round of 16 in an ITF tournament in Egypt. She lost the round against her sister Lulu Sun and her partner Svetlana Iansitova. Radovcic again partnered with her sister in another ITF match the same year and lost to Belgium’s Mathilde Devits and Elizaveta Khabarova. Radovcic’s previous match graphs tell that she is more comfortable on hard courts.

Phenomena Radovcic caught so much of the spotlight because of her younger sister Lulu Sun, who is the second Kiwi woman to reach the Wimbledon round of 16 after 65 long years. Sun is also the first Kiwi player in seven years to reach a Grand Slam singles main draw. Before her Maori tennis legend Dame Ruia Morrison achieved this feat. This New Zealand-Swiss WTA player is all set to perform against former US Open champion Emma Raducanu today at the Center Court. However, her entry to the round of 16 has already delighted her as she is the second WTA star from her country to achieve it. Sharing her delight, Sun said, “That is something that definitely doesn’t comes by often, I wasn’t expecting to be here at this stage. I’ve just been playing match by match and yeah, here I am.”
Sun’s achievement has also pleased Morrison, who was the first Kiwi WTA player to achieve it. “I’m absolutely stoked that we have still got someone playing at Wimbledon from New Zealand. They are doing so well – it’s lovely,”- said Morrison. She also exclaimed in joy that she felt “wonderful – absolutely wonderful” sharing her record with Sun. In fact, she further said, “I don’t feel lonely anymore.”
Lulu Sun has definitely made her country proud and brought a lot of focus to her tennis skills. Her entry to Wimbledon’s round of 16 shed light on her family’s connection with tennis given her elder sister’s inclination to the sport. Now in her upcoming match against Raducanu today, everyone is willing to see whether she outperforms the Briton with her incredible playstyle.
