The Splash Brothers might be gone but could this be the start of the Splash Buddies?
The Golden State Warriors have acquired sharpshooter Buddy Hield from the Philadelphia 76ers via sign-and-trade, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported on Thursday.
Philadelphia received a 2031 second-round pick from Dallas in return.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Hield would be signing a two-year contract for a guaranteed $21 million. Additionally, the third year comes with a $3 million partial guarantee and a non-guaranteed player option fourth year.
Hield, 31, is one of the best three-point shooters in the NBA, hitting a career 40.0 per cent of his looks and 38.6 per cent of them last year.
He split time last season between the Indiana Pacers and Philadelphia 76ers after being dealt ahead of the trade deadline. He has also played with the New Orleans Pelicans and Sacramento Kings over the course of his eight-year career.
A native of Freeport, Bahamas, he has hit the most three-pointers in the league over the last five seasons with 1,322 — 58 more than the second-place Steph Curry with 1,264.
Golden State lost lifelong Warrior Klay Thompson earlier this week, seeing the Bay Area stalwart go to the Dallas Mavericks on a three-year, $50 million contract. The pairing of him and Curry — the best shooter of all time — netted the Warriors four NBA titles and a dynastic level of success.
Since his departure, the Warriors have signed guard DeAnthony Melton, forward Kyle Anderson and Hield as they hope to extend the success of the late 2010s and early 2020s.
