41.03 seconds – that’s the time that clinched Team USA a gold at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest. The quartet of Sha’Carri Richardson, Tamari Davis, Gabby Thomas, and Twanisha Terry set a World Championships record by running the fastest time ever. Sha’Carri Richardson has been around the block and trust us, she isn’t stopping anytime soon. Richardson had previously clinched a gold in the 100m at the championships. Davis gave the USA an early lead out of the blocks, but the American and Jamaican team were neck to neck for most of the race. But, here’s where it gets better!
Richardson and Shericka Jackson were on the anchor leg. However, the American was passed the baton a little before Jackson’s teammate could get to her. And the rest is history! Amidst roaring cheers from the stands, Sha’Carri Richardson led Team USA to a thrilling victory. Many are sure that the world champion could replicate this victory at the upcoming Paris Olympics. But former Bahamian Sprinter, Rodney Green thinks otherwise and his rationale wasn’t received well from the track and field fraternity.

Sha’Carri Richardson has successfully punched her ticket to the French Capital. She clinched an effortless win at Hayward Field with a world-leading time of 10.71 seconds. On an episode of Ready Set Go, Olympic gold medalist Justin Gatlin and Rodney Green were discussing how Team USA would fare in the women’s 4x100m relay. In a short snippet from the episode, Gatlin asks Green what his ideal line up would be. “I’m going Sha’Carri out the hole, to TeeTee Terry, to Gabby, to MJ,” the Track and field coach expressed.

Gatlin was surprised by his formation, and added, “I’m flipping MJ and Sha’Carri.” Green immediately disagreed, but the Olympian went on to explain why. He believes that world champion brings insurance with her, and her top end speed would be beneficial for the team in the final stretch. If push comes to shove, Gatlin believes Richardson would be able to close in on any gaps and cross the finish line first.
However, Green still felt she would be better off out the block. “But I’m telling you, the analytics show that this girl, Sha’Carri Richardson, dominates the turn.” He continues elaborating on how she has continued to showcase her skills while locking horns with the best of the best. Referring to her performance at the 2023 World Championships, he mentions how she did the same against Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson too.
He ends it with, “She don’t get rolled up until later on in the race.” Green believes this line up will be beneficial for Team USA at the French capital. However, Jackson has proved that she does well in the final stretch of the track. Despite Green’s expertise, many fans weren’t convinced by his hypothesis.
Fans wholeheartedly disagree with Rodney Green

Despite disagreeing, Gatlin and Green provided reasons for why they think the lineup would make sense. However, fans let them know what they think about this in the comments. One fan stated, “Yeah heck naw, her biggest weakness is her start so why would you want her out the blocks, as long as she’s healthy she should anchor” Green has previously stated how Richardson doesn’t have a strong start either, and fans weren’t afraid to call him out for that.
Another fan asked, “Why would I put my best top end leg in 1st curve? We just won the world championships with her anchoring why change it?” The 2023 World Championships are a testament to Richardson’s role as anchor. If she did it then, she can do it again in Paris! One fan honestly confessed, “First time since I’ve started watching yall when I can say “yall trippin!”” The crème de la crème of track and field often use their expertise to analyze the current sprint icons. But there’s always a first time for everything, right? Even this fan was in complete disagreement with Green’s corollary on Richardson’s anchor.

One fan offered a counter-argument, “But Shacarri isn’t a great starter unfortunately. Gabby has to run 3rd leg and Shacarri anchor.” They reiterated how starting is her weakness and believed their lineup from Budapest still stands the test of time. Another fan stated their ideal lineup, “Bruh. MJ lead off, TT back stretch, Gabby on the 3rd leg and let Sha Carri bring it home. Forget that nonsense!” Looks like Gatlin and a few fans agree on what perfection looks like!
