Russell Wilson is seemingly gelling up with his new coach, Mike Tomlin. After his Denver Broncos exit in March, followed by an emotional note expressing his excitement of “what’s next,” the 35-year-old is ready for the 2024 showdown. And with him, the Pittsburgh Steelers and their newly-extended coach, Mike Tomlin is also ready.
Tomlin, the longest-serving coach in the NFL, has signed a contract with Pittsburgh that keeps him with the Steel City until the 2027 season. The coach agreed to a three-year extension and will start his 18th season this time with the team. With his extension, it’s obvious that this news has brought joy in the team, especially with their newly one-year signed QB, Wilson.

The NFL Network group recently shared an Instagram post on Mike Tomlin’s contract extension. They dropped a photo of the coach, with an “Alert” text and Steelers’ logo printed beside it. The photo was also overlaid by text – “Steelers extending Mike Tomlin.” Along with this post, the outlet further wrote a caption informing the audience that “Steelers sign head coach Mike Tomlin to a 3-year contract extension.”
This news has brought immense happiness to the Steelers’ nation, and their new quarterback didn’t waste time to share his two-word message. In the comment section, Russell Wilson wrote, “The Best” with raising hands emoji. This comment perfectly sums up how Wilson and the entire team respects Tomlin, and is happy to play for him, and under him. He also shared an IG story of Tomlin’s extension news, tagging him, along with writing another two word message: “Legend. Icon.”
However, that’s not all, Wilson earlier too mentioned that he got a big gift as Tomlin in his career with the new team.

Does Mike Tomlin think the same about Russell Wilson?
Russell Wilson has now turned the page to the Steelers, closing the chapter of Broncos. As he has entered a one-year, $1.21 million deal with the franchise, he seemed quite happy and excited to play with Mike Tomlin. During an interview earlier, Wilson expressed his happiness: “To play 13 years in the NFL has been a dream come true. To be able to play for Mike Tomlin; to stand side by side with him and try to accomplish all the goals that I want to accomplish with the Steelers organization, and what that represents for the NFL, is one of the greatest gifts in the world.” Now the question is, does Tomlin too think the same about Wilson or he has some other plans about the quarterback position this year?

As soon as Tomlin signed his three-year extension, the quarterback battle between Wilson and Justin Fields began. In April at ESPN’s NFL Draft coverage, when asked whom he thinks is a better QB, Tomlin replied, “Russell is in pole position. His collective body of work merits that. But we’re really excited to have Justin as well. During the course of team development, training camp and preseason he’ll be given the opportunity to compete.”
Well, that’s actually a reasonable way to analyze this summer. So, what do you think, who’s the better QB: Wilson or Fields?
