PWHL New York is heading into a new era.
On Friday, the team announced that Greg Fargo, former Colgate University women’s hockey head coach, will take the reins ahead of the 2024-2025 season.
“I am very proud to welcome Greg Fargo to our family,” said New York general manager Pascal Daoust. “His track record of repeated successes and honours, both individually and through team victories and titles at Colgate, speaks for itself.”
The Kingston, Ont. native announced he was leaving Colgate this month after 12 seasons, where he earned the highest winning percentage (.624) in program history. He coached the team to seven 20-win seasons, five NCAA tournament berths, 10 ECAC tournament appearances and four ECAC championships. He was named the ECAC Coach of the Year in 2020-21.
Before Colgate, the 41-year-old served as the head coach for the women’s hockey team at Elmira College.
“I am thrilled about the opportunity to join PWHL New York and coach some of the best players in the world,” said Fargo. “This league is on an exciting trajectory, and I am eager to contribute to its growth and success. This is a great opportunity to continue to develop as a coach and pursue championships in the premier league of women’s hockey.”
During his time Colgate, Fargo coached current PWHL New York players Jessie Eldridge and Olivia Zafuto, who both graduated in 2019.
Fargo takes over for Howie Draper, who left New York at the end of the inaugural season in May by mutual agreement. Draper came to the PWHL from the University of Alberta women’s hockey team, where he will return this season.
New York finished last in the league this season with a 5-4-3-12 record.
