Matchmaker Hunter Campbell’s Surprising Reaction After Saving UFC 303 With Dan Ige Post Brian Ortega Fiasco

International Fight Week was supposed to be the bedrock of Conor McGregor’s return to the Octagon after a prolonged gap of three years due to a shin injury. His return was all set but a sudden pinky toe injury derailed the hype train and crashed it right in the water. What were the after-effects you ask? Well, it was the start of a war room-type scenario for Hunter Campbell and Dana White.

White and Campbell had to sit with their insider team to reschedule the main event of the grand night. However, they were about to be surprised as alongside the McGregor fiasco they had some more premium events that were either rescheduled or canceled by the promotion. The duo might have saved the card but it took a chunk out of them and Campbell seems to be exhausted in his latest outing.

After the Conor McGregor fiasco, it was the co-main event of UFC 303 that caught fire. Jamahal Hill had to withdraw from his clash against Carlos Ulberg, who was the replacement for Khalil Rountree in the first place. Campbell pulled in Anthony Smith to fight Ulberg but the fight gods had some other plans as Ulberg injured himself just a week before the fight and the entire fight was cancelled altogether.

To save the co-main, White and Hunter Campbell then pulled in Diego Lopes and Brian Ortega for the clash. It was all good but on the day of the fight, Brian Ortega had to pull out as he woke with a fever of 103 degrees. The war room which was dormant after saving the card seems to be working all over again. In a last-minute push, Campbell, clinched in Dan Ige to fight Lopes at the lightweight division.

After all of the fiasco, one just needs a good night’s sleep and nothing else. A fan asked Campbell what he was thinking about the card and he had only one response for it, “I’m ready to sleep tonight”
