Lamar Jackson & Russell Wilson Issued Warning as Dan Quinn’s Lethal LB Jamin Davis Turns Edge Rusher at Washington Commanders

Trouble brewing for QBs! Commanders’ defense, under head coach Dan Quinn, gets a boost as Jamin Davis lines up as an edge rusher, putting pressure on Lamar Jackson and Russell Wilson. Quinn stated he’d make use of the blitz-heavy approach, which will be the bread and butter of Commanders’ defense this season. 

Hailing at 6’1” and 234 lbs, Jamin Davis was selected in the 2021 NFL draft. Although a rookie LB, Quinn posing Davis as a possible edge-rusher could potentially add to the team’s pass rush. 

Having Davis as an edge-rusher presents a catch-22 for Jackson and Wilson. Of course, they cannot afford to be caught off guard by Davis giving up on the receiving end and deciding to play the role of a blitzer. Or possibly, they need to beware of his deep running route—when all of a sudden he pans off to be in a position to sack the QB (when the receiver decides to run deep). Combining this two-pronged threat can disturb the starting QBs’ pocket awareness and compel them to make the wrong throws. 

Head Coach Quinn’s idea seems terrific, and Jamin Davis didn’t fail to praise him as well. In a conversation with the NFL network, Davis said, “I do think Jayden Daniels will hold a lot of value and a lot of intrigue because Washington has hired Dan Quinn as its new head coach. Defensive-minded head coaches go nuts for quarterbacks who can do things off-schedule [and] run the football…He’s the next Lamar Jackson.” 

Added to the blitz packages, the versatility of Davis could mean a world of trouble for QBs who like to move around a lot. The latter will face task-irrelevant changes in the defensive front, allowing them very limited margins for mistakes. Of course, Quinn’s fiery schemes and Jamin Davis’ developing pass-rushing ability mean that NFC East signal callers, Lamar Jackson, and Russell Wilson included, should now (and in the future) sweat about their upcoming matchup against the Commanders. 

Dan Quinn’s defensive transformation: Commanders aim at offensive powerhouses 

Dan Quinn’s official introduction as the new head coach can be a potential move for the Commanders. Quinn’s defense approach in Dallas showcased how his scheme has changed from the zone-heavy Cover-3 days to a much more aggressive approach—with lots of man coverage and additional rushers. 

Quinn concentrated on addressing his blind spots and providing details about the 360-degree study during a discussion with Washington. He also explained his ideas for an offensive succession plan, something he regretted not having in Atlanta. The mastermind looked outside the company to replace Shanahan after he left to become head coach of the 49ers. This allowed offensive assistant Mike McDaniel and QB coach Matt LaFleur of the Falcons to accompany Shanahan to San Francisco. 

On the ESPN broadcast, he discussed how he changed his defensive tactics during his stints in Dallas, Atlanta, and Seattle—going from the Seahawks’ renowned 3-4 defense to the Cowboys’ 4-3 defense. Last season, Dallas gave up the fifth-fewest yards (299.7) and points (18.5) per game. Considering these defense tactics and willingness to adapt, Coach Quinn’s arrival could be a turning point for the team.
