Gene Haas Rejects Tony Stewart’s Path to Continue Cup Series Legacy With Rekindled Hope for SHR Drivers

Gene Haas will remain active in the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series despite calling it quits at Stewart-Haas Racing. The team was a joint venture between him and NASCAR legend Tony Stewart. But unlike Stewart, he will remain active in the NASCAR Cup Series, retaining one of the four SHR charters.

“My commitment to motorsports hasn’t changed, just the scope of my involvement. Operating a four-car Cup Series team has become too arduous but, at the same time, I still need a platform to promote Haas Automation and grow HaasTooling .com,” Gene Haas was quoted saying via Bob Pockrass.

This new development also opens up the doors for SHR drivers to compete for the single charter. Chase Briscoe has been linked with a move to JGR, replacing Martin Truex Jr. Therefore, this opens up the doors for the likes of Josh Berry, Noah Gragson, and Ryan Preece to secure their ride in 2025.

However, nothing can be said for certain, as Gene Haas could bring in his own driver to the new team. There can be a possibility of the current Xfinity team star driver being promoted to the new team. This NASCAR silly season has already started with a bang and this announcement could deliver more surprising news in the near future.

And speaking of the available Stewart Haas Racing charters on the market, now only two of them are up for grabs. One was already bagged by Front Row Motorsports expanding to a three-car team.

Meanwhile, Gene Haas will now retain a charter for himself. Therefore the potential buyers will now have to be on their toes to get a charter for themselves. As with the current pace, there won’t be any left on the market. It will be interesting to see what 23XI Racing and Trackhouse Racing’s movements will be after this announcement.
