Much like the rest of the world, boxing icon Claressa Shields also has a dream to etch her name in the annals of boxing history.
Shields was last seen inside the squared circle in June last year when she defeated Maricela Cornejo. Her fans would be thrilled to know that she will be back in action soon as she faces Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse. Ahead of her fight next month, the fighter vowed to raise the standards in the boxing world. What exactly did she do?

The Michigan born boxer is the queen of wishful thinking, and she always stands by her proclamations. Shields is known as the GWOAT and now she has another milestone to achieve. Claressa was at the Downtown Boxing Gym in Detroit where she stated, “I want to go down in history as the ‘Beyonce of Boxing’, the Serena Williams of Boxing’.”

She further explained that she feels she is unstoppable when it comes to fighting. Her 14-0 record is proof of that. It will be part of the Salt promotions ‘Big Time Boxing USA’, and will take place at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The 29-year-old boxer will have a chance to become a two-division champion in this contest. This will definitely pave her path to becoming like Beyonce or Serena Williams. The GWOAT used to revere Serena but something changed her opinion.

Claressa Shields realized why the saying ‘Never meet your heroes’ stands true. Tennis legend Serena Williams has been an idol for millions of people around the globe, and Shields is one of them. The boxer had great admiration for Williams, till she got a chance to meet her in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Shields was in conversation with the Detroit Press where she revealed that she used to idolize Williams since her childhood. But after she met her in-person, Shields’ saw that the Tennis star was not really fan-friendly. She further added, “She was kind of mean to a lot of people at the Olympics and just kind of made me not want to be like her. Because I’m different. I’m a fan of her being a great athlete, just not a fan of her as a person if that makes sense?”
