At the Racer Grand Prix meet on Saturday, Oblique Seville of Jamaica defeated Noah Lyles, the current world champion, with the fastest 100 meters of the year till now, finishing in at 9.82 seconds. With the help of a 0.9 m/sec tailwind, the 23-year-old surprised himself by breaking his previous personal best of 9.86 and stunning American star Lyles, who finished in 9.85, barely off his best of 9.83. Despite the loss, Noah did seem to lose his confident self.
Lyles did not hold back in a post-race interview. He had all the praise of his newly unveiled rival. Noah clearly stated that he wasn’t shocked by Seville’s performance. In a tweet from Jamaica Gleaner, the acknowledgment shows Lyles’ regard for Seville’s skills and his awareness of a potential opponent. Alongside that, he also came up with a note of caution for his countrymen.
Aware of the growing competition on home soil, he sounded the alarm for them. Lyles stated, “So at this point, I’m walking in the USA is like, no, better put something on your chest before I cave in your chest.” This ambitious statement from Noah Lyles once again demonstrated his resolve to challenge himself and others to achieve greater heights.
