American Olympics Spirit in Full Display as Coco Gauff, Danielle Collins Lead Wishes for Jessica Pegula’s Grand WTA Comeback

Jessica Pegula came with flying colors on Berlin’s grass court. After skipping the French Grand Slam tour, Pegula finally made a comeback leaving the fraternity in awe. Her friends and colleagues, who recently joined her in representing her country for one of the sports’ biggest events, congratulated her as they spotted great signs of hard work and enthusiasm on the American WTA star’s recent feat.

The official Instagram page of WTA and Berlin Ladies Open shared snippets from American WTA star Jessica Pegula’s victory at the WTA Berlin Classic. They shared Pegula’s image with the Berlin Bear trophy, snippets from her match against Anna Kalinskaya, her trophy-lifting ceremony, and her post-victory speech.

Pegula defeated Coco Gauff by 7-5, 7-6(2) on Sunday despite rain halting their semifinal match overnight on Saturday. Then, in the final, she defeated Anna Kalinskaya from Russia by 6-7(0), 6-4, 7-6(3) to win her Berlin Open title yesterday. Despite losing the first set to competitive Kalinskaya, Pegula returned with a bang to win the remaining two sets to achieve her victory.

Following this win, Pegula wins her debut grass-court title, leaving the tennis fraternity impressed. Now, the USTA has recently announced this world’s number five WTA star’s name in their tennis roasters for the Paris Olympics. Despite reaching the semifinals of the San Diego Open and the Charleston Open with quarterfinals of the Miami Open, Pegula couldn’t win a title until the Berlin Ladies Open. At the beginning of this year, she suffered a neck injury and had to withdraw from the Middle East tournaments in February. She also withdrew from Roland Garros 2024 for her recovery.

However, the world’s number 5 WTA star’s recent victory received much applause from her American colleagues and teammates at the Olympics, Danielle Collins and Coco Gauff. Pegula’s other colleague Madison Keys also joined the bandwagon.

Jessica Pegula’s win at the Berlin Ladies Open received a huge appreciation from her American friends as shared Danielle Collins’ wish on her Instagram story. This Miami Open 2024 winner took to her official Instagram platform to share WTA’s post on her story and congratulated Pegula saying, “THIS GIRL @JPEGULA” Collins further added three heart emojis, red, white, and blue in color with USA’s flag, trophy and a clapping emoji to showcase her happiness.

Pegula and Collins’ friendship caught the eyes of the fraternity before their selection at the Olympics this year. In June, this world’s number-five shared her look from Vogue’s cover shoot and the Charleston Open 2024 winner was quick enough to compliment her by calling her “Super model @jpegula ❤️🙌🔥.” In NBC Sports’ The French Connection podcast before Roland Garros 2024, Pegula also spoke highly of Collins – “Yeah, I’m a big Danielle Collins fan. I think she’s great, I think she’s entertaining. I think she’s such a great personality.” Looking at their interaction, it seemed Collins would not miss a moment to cheer for her Olympics partner.

The WTA’s Instagram post spotted Pegula’s friend and other Olympic teammate Coco Gauff’s comment. Gauff dropped four clap emojis to express how happy and proud she felt sharing the Olympic vision with Pegula.

Now, Gauff and Pegula not only share a friendship but also have won five titles with their brilliant partnerships in doubles matches. They won three WTA 1000 titles in Miami, Qatar, and Toronto among those. Pegula also faced off against Gauff in the tournament she came as a winner. Gauff and Pegula’s match halted overnight on Saturday due to rain in Berlin. While Pegula had a lead of 7-5, 6(3)- 6(1), she fought hard when the match resumed the next day and defeated the reigning US Open champion by 7-5 and 7-6(2). Despite losing, Gauff’s gesture for her friend Pegula left the tennis fraternity impressed.

Not just Olympic buddies but Pegula’s friend Madison Keys also shared the WTA’s post on her Instagram story and congratulated her with a trophy emoji and two exclamation signs that represent how awestruck she is witnessing Pegula’s marvelous work on the grass court.

Now, Keys and Pegula share a great friendship. Last year after defeating Pegula at the US Open round of 16, Keys said, “It’s always tough playing a friend. We’ve been doing it basically our whole lives”.  In fact, Pegula also complimented her friend mentioning how Madison Keys “doesn’t get enough credit” despite being “a great player.” Now, on Pegula’s victory, Madison Keys proved her friendship to this American with her heartwarming gesture.
