After Disappointing PPV Buys vs. Frank Martin, Insider Says Gervonta Davis Desperately Needs to Fight a Boxing Legend

Last weekend Gervonta Davis took home the win against Frank Martin, but the pay-per-view numbers fell way short of impressive. At least, that’s what boxing insider Rick Glaser says while highlighting ‘Tank’ needs to face Ukrainian boxing legend Vasyl Lomachenko desperately. Interestingly, this fight might be exactly what Davis might have been concocting.

See, the thing is, ‘Loma’ squared off against George Kambosos Jr. in Perth, Australia only last month, winning the bout comfortably by eleventh round knockout. Right after the fight, Davis had challenged Lomachenko, which the Ukrainian accepted. But the question here is, why does Glaser think ‘Tank’ needs Lomachenko?

Turning to X earlier today, Glaser suggested if Gervonta Davis doesn’t fight Vasyl Lomachenko next, he is most likely ducking the Ukrainian. As to why Davis needs Lomachenko, Glaser explained, “#Tank needs a well known dance partner to sell PPV going forward”, adding, like when Davis fought Ryan Garcia in April last year.

When a user jumped in to defend Davis, suggesting ‘Tank’ fights only the best and could sell out arenas and pay-per-view by re-matching Rolly Romero, Glaser responded claiming the Davis vs. Martin fight “Didn’t do 200,000” PPVs. It’s also worth mentioning that the official numbers for the fight haven’t been revealed as of the time of writing, so Glaser is speculating at best. However, the prices for the PPV were expensive, so there is a chance the numbers may come out lower than usual.

Whether the Lomachenko fight happens is yet to be seen, but Ryan Garcia is trying his best to secure a rematch with Davis.

After Davis delivered an absolute clinic on Saturday night, Ryan Garcia made his way to the ring to congratulate Davis and shared a wholesome moment with Davis while showing his “Rematch me b**ch” T-shirt”. Later, during the press conference for the fight, Davis shed light on their conversation.

When one of the reporters in the crowd brought it up, Davis said, “He’s crazy”. Elaborating on his point, Davis explained, “He’s crazy talking about rematch. He said I was the best at 135 to 142 [pounds], he said that. He said he wants to fight me again. I’ll kick his a** again.” Ryan Garcia also took shots at Davis on social media, writing, “I will hurt this guy on my momma”.

With that said, it’s difficult to say what will be Gervonta Davis’ next step, but the fight against Vasyl Lomachenko makes the most sense. Not to mention, both fighters have already shown interest in making the fight happen. What did you think? Who should Davis fight next?
