Ranbir Kapoor Opens Up On How Ramayana And Fatherhood Transformed Him

Ranbir Kapoor and director Nitesh Tiwari have shared insights into the emotional and creative journey behind their upcoming movie Ramayana. In a recent conversation with Top Film Magazine, the duo discussed the weight of bringing such an epic to the big screen and how the experience has personally impacted them.

For Ranbir, stepping into the role of Lord Rama was initially a daunting prospect. He admitted that he faced some apprehension at the start of the project. He recalled thinking, “Would I be able to do justice? Am I worthy enough? “However, these feelings of self-doubt ultimately gave way to a deeper sense of gratitude. He shared, “I understood not that it will be something like a career-defining move for me, but it was definitely life-defining. It changed my life.”

Ranbir explained that immersing himself in the journey of Lord Rama greatly influenced his perspective on life and morality. He mentioned, “It changed my value system, the way I look at life, the way I look at loss, the way I look at sacrifice, the way I look at dharma.” He further talked about the humanity of the character, explaining that he was particularly moved by Rama’s restraint. He said, “He responds out of compassion and not out of ego. In today’s world, where we are always on edge and wanting to react instantly, Rama responding with humility, forgiveness and restraint feels beyond human.”

Ranbir also drew a parallel between his professional commitment to the film and his personal life as a father to his daughter, Raha. He said, “It was such a sweet coincidence in my life that Raha made me a better person and Ramayana wanted me to be a better person for Raha.”

Director Nitesh Tiwari added that the film aims to balance large-scale spectacle with deep emotional resonance. “When it comes to something as epic as Ramayana, emotions are the core,” Tiwari said, mentioning that while they have spent nearly five years preparing the film’s world, the technology is only there to serve the story. He shared that the goal is to introduce global audiences to the content, the emotions, the values and the essence of the epic.

The project stars an ensemble cast including Sai Pallavi, Yash, Sunny Deol, and Ravie Dubey, with veteran actor Arun Govil appearing as King Dasharath.
