Runway Breach Turns Deadly As Frontier Takeoff Ends In Fire

According to airport officials, Frontier Flight 4345 had just begun its departure from Denver International Airport when it struck a pedestrian. Additionally, the victim had allegedly breached a secured perimeter fence and entered the runway area. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities have not yet released their identity. Nonetheless, it is noted that they are not believed to be an airport employee. Moments later, an engine fire broke out and was extinguished as the aircraft aborted takeoff.

Passengers Recall Smoke, Screams, And Midair Chaos

Passengers on board described a horrifying sequence of events that played out in seconds. Some reported hearing a loud impact followed by screams. Meanwhile, others said they saw flames erupt near the engine as the plane briefly lifted before touching back down. One traveler recalled smoke rapidly filling the cabin, making it difficult to breathe as crew members instructed passengers to remain seated before emergency exits were eventually opened.

Another passenger, Nikil Thalanki, said the cabin quickly became chaotic as visibility dropped and panic spread. Franco Valera described looking out the window and seeing the engine engulfed in fire, while Mohamed Hassan said he heard a “loud boom” before passengers began screaming and scrambling. “I thought I was going to die,” Hassan said, adding that the situation felt completely out of control as toxic fumes filled the aircraft.

Evacuation, Injuries Reported As FAA Launches Investigation

The Airbus A321, carrying more than 200 passengers and crew, was ultimately evacuated using emergency slides. Airport officials confirmed that 12 people sustained minor injuries, with several transported to local hospitals. Emergency responders quickly contained the fire and later bused passengers back to the terminal. Furthermore, the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board launched investigations into the incident. Transportation officials have also confirmed that the breach of airport security is a key focus of the ongoing probe.
