Calling the 2021 biographical film “one of the best pieces of art” he’s ever seen, Karan said, “I’ve watched all the films that covered the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, from Gandhi to Sardar Udham. But the last 20 minutes of Sardar Udham are just something else — truly gut-wrenching and deeply powerful. It became a guiding light for me. I admire Shoojit Sircar and everything he creates.”
Interestingly, Vicky Kaushal also lent his voice to Kesari Chapter 2. However, the filmmaker clarified that it was not linked to any Sardar Udham association. He explained, “Vicky’s voiceover appears right at the beginning and sets the tone for the entire narrative. We didn’t approach him due to Sardar Udham, but because I genuinely admire his talent and the gravity he brings to his performances. His voice alone adds such weight to the film.”
Kesar Chapter 2, the sequel to Akshay Kumar’s 2019 hit Kesari, explores the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh tragedy through the lens of lawyer C. Sankaran Nair. It is based on the book The Case That Shook the Empire, the film follows Nair’s historic legal battle against the British Raj after he boldly criticized their brutal actions in Punjab. The courtroom drama stars Akshay Kumar who is joined by R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday. The film has grossed over â¹46 crore since its release on April 18.
