Rohit Shetty To Make a Standalone Film on Deepika Padukone’s Lady Singham?

Singham Again, which is the latest addition to Rohit Shetty’s cop-universe is performing well at the box office and drawing audiences to the theatres. The multi-starrer actioner sees several characters reprise their roles such as Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar and it also sees some new faces in the franchise such as Tiger Shroff and Deepika Padukone. The latter played the role of Shakti Shetty or Lady Singham, the first female cop in Shetty’s film universe. Now, the director has opened up about the possibility of a standalone film on Lady Singham and has confirmed that it will happen. He also revealed why it took him so long to introduce a lady cop in the cop universe.

During an interview he said, “The wait was to get the right script and the right kind of launch for the character. Till 2018, I wasn’t even sure if there’s going to be a cop universe.” He continued, “When Simmba worked, people accepted that we can bring in other characters and create a universe. That’s when we made Sooryavanshi and it was during this film that we thought of making a film with an out-and-out lady cop.”

On being asked about the possibility of a standalone film on Shakti Shetty’s character, the filmmaker answered, “We still have to write it. We do have a concept in mind but we don’t know where we can go with it. There’s still time for that. I know what the character will be like and her basic story arc but I don’t know her whole journey yet as a director or writer. But a female-led cop film headlined by Lady Singham will definitely happen, otherwise we wouldn’t have introduced her at all. There’s a reason why we’ve emphasised on that character and her name in Singham Again.”

Singham Again also stars Jackie Shroff, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Arjun Kapoor in key roles.
