Christopher Ciccone, Madonna‘s younger sibling and a multi-talented artist, has passed away at 63. Known for his work in dance, art, and interior design, Ciccone’s death on Friday (Oct. 04, 2024) in Michigan followed a cancer diagnosis.
The pop icon took to social media to share her grief, penning a touching tribute to her brother. “My brother Christopher is gone. He was the closest human to me for so long,” she wrote. “Its hard to explain our bond. But it grew out of an understanding that we were different and society was going to give us a hard time for not following the status quo. We took each other’s hands and we danced through the madness of our childhood.”
Ciccone’s artistic journey began with dance, which led him to join Montreal’s La Groupe de La Place Royal. He later supported Madonna’s early career as a backup dancer, appearing in her 1983 ‘Lucky Star’ video.
His talents extended to art direction for her Blond Ambition World Tour in 1990 and directing music videos for country legend Dolly Parton and crooner Tony Bennett.

In 2008, Ciccone published Life with My Sister Madonna, a memoir that shed light on their complex relationship over the years.
Madonna acknowledged recent challenges in their relationship but noted they reconnected after his cancer diagnosis. “The last few years with my brother have not been easy,” she shared, “but we found our way back to each other.”

Ciccone is survived by his husband, actor Ray Thacker, whom he wed in 2016.
