After a tense 24 hours, Elaine Thompson-Herah responded with a positive update, saying she feels overwhelmed after receiving so many heartwarming wishes from her fans. On Sunday, at the NYC Grand Prix, the 5-time Olympic champion was the favorite to win the women’s 100m event. But soon, hope turned to ashes as she finished the race in 8th position (11.48 seconds), while the winner, Favour Ofili, clocked an astonishing 11.18 seconds. Elaine Thompson-Herah could be seen limping on the track after concluding the race. Eventually, she had to remove her spike from her right leg to cope with the intense discomfort, seemingly in her Achilles. She even left the track on the shoulders of her coaching staff.

Elaine Thompson-Herah has now shared an IG story, penning her current status. Thanking her fans for all the messages, the Jamaican athlete said, “I haven’t gotten a chance to respond to any as yet but I will [emoji]”. While there is no major update on her injury, in the primary hours, Elaine tried to clear the air with a note that she was “awaiting professional advice moving forward.” After watching her suffer excruciating pain in the fence line, the track and field community is left wondering if there is any hope for her to make it into the Jamaican trials.
