The four PWHL expansion teams now know which players are off limits.
The PWHL announced the official protection lists for the eight existing teams on Wednesday, with each team allowed to protect three players as part of Phase 1 of the expansion roster distribution.
Each protected player had to be under contract for the 2026-27 season to be eligible for selection.
Phase 2 of the expansion process begins on Friday with the expansion team foundational signing period, when the league’s four new teams in Detroit, Hamilton, Las Vegas and San Jose will begin to build their 2026-27 rosters by signing five players each from the remaining pool.
Each existing team can only lose a maximum of three players who are under contract for the 2026-27 season during the expansion process.
