Long before he made it to the NBA, Trae Young drew countless mixed reviews.

From comparisons to Stephen Curry to others thinking he was going to be the next Jimmer Fredette, he’s had to earn his praise and silence the doubters with his play on the court.

But even after he led the Atlanta Hawks to the Eastern Conference Finals, and regardless of the fact that he’s been near the top in both points per game and assists per game in every season since he’s been in the league, some still don’t seem to consider him an elite player.

In a recent sitdown with Bleacher Report (Via NBA Central), Young claimed that he’s gotten used to all the disrespect, adding that he knows that winning a championship would shift the narrative in his favor, which is why that’s the ultimate goal for him right now.

Young is one of the most dominant scorers in the league, and his passing and playmaking skills also rank among the best.

He’s by no means a good defender and never will be, but he wouldn’t be the first player to be granted ‘superstar’ status despite being a poor defender, and he definitely won’t be the last.

Perhaps all the noise about his character and alleged feuds with the coaches and some teammates have hurt his reputation over the past couple of years.

But Young has proven to be a pure hooper, and a guy who’ll embrace that villain role by waiving your team goodbye after knocking down the game-winning shot.
