‘Shang-Chi’ Star Simu Liu Reveals Which MCU Hero He’d Want To Work With

Shang-Chi is set to make his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a big way following the end of his solo project teasing an Avengers connection. When talking about his future with the franchise, Simu Liu revealed which fellow Marvel star he’d want to team up with in the future.

The first Shang-Chi film made a splash with fans thanks to its fresh fight scenes and setting. While the sequel sadly seems to have stalled due to scheduling delays relating to Avengers: Kang Dynasty, it seems as though Simu Liu is still excited about his future in the MCU. When speaking with Men’s Health Magazine, Liu expressed interest in teaming up with fellow Phase 4 breakout star Iman Vellani:

“I’ll single out [Ms. Marvel star] Iman Vellani. First of all, she’s a fellow Canadian. She’s just so great. The few times I’ve met her, and all the conversations we’ve had, she’s just such a wonderful human being. I’m so excited to get to play opposite any and all of the amazing people that have been introduced into the universe,” Liu explained. “But she’s just… I don’t know, I guess she’s really just stuck out to me as someone who just absolutely loves it, and loves the world, loves the position that she’s been put in. It kind of, I guess, reminds me of myself in a way—she was such a big Marvel fan from before too. And it’s just surreal to her too, every bit of as much of a dream come true for her as it is for me.”

Given both Ms. Marvel and Shang-Chi were two of fans’ most beloved heroes from the MCU’s Phase 4, it would be a treat to see the two share the screen. Fans also heavily speculate that Kamala Khan’s bangles may be directly linked to Shang-Chi’s Ten Rings. This could lead to a more direct crossover than an Avengers film, with Iman Vellani potentially showing up in Shang-Chi’s sequel with Simu Liu.

When will Shang-Chi 2 hit theaters?

The next Avengers film, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, has been firmly set to grace screens on May 01, 2026. Liu’s statement seems to indicate that the release of Shang-Chi will follow this installment. As such, this timeline suggests that MCU fans can anticipate the sequel’s release sometime after May 2026.

Subsequent to The Kang Dynasty, the Avengers franchise will continue with Avengers: Secret Wars, with the release date already marked for May 7, 2027. If Shang-Chi 2 is to follow the Avengers timeline as suggested by Liu, Marvel fans can expect the film to fall between these two Avengers installments.
