There has been a lot of talk in NBA circles about Victor Wembanyama.

The No. 1 pick in the draft has been the biggest talking point in the league for more than a year, and his two games in Summer League had some mixed reviews.

Wembanyama is one of the most overhyped prospects in professional sports history, and some even think he has the potential to be better than LeBron James.

With that in mind, an unnamed Western Conference assistant GM told Ric Bucher that, unlike LeBron, Wembanyama actually seems ‘built’ for this kind of hype (via NBA Central).

Truth be told, it’s hard to think of a player that was more hyped than LeBron James when he first entered the league.

He was literally deemed ‘The Chosen One, ‘ and his high school games were sold out, not to mention the fact that they were actually airing them on ESPN.

Of course, Wembanyama had his games live streamed on the NBA Pass app, and all the ‘GOAT prospect’ talk has hyped him, but James also went through it.

More than that, it’s fair to say that James has not only lived up to the hype but actually surpassed it.

James has either been at the top of the league or close to it for two decades straight, making it to the NBA Finals in almost half of the seasons he’s been in the league and going down as a top-10 player in most major stats.

Wembanyama is just walking his first steps in the league, and even though he might live up to the expectations, maybe we should put the brakes on a little.
