The Dallas Mavericks bounced back from a three-loss streak to win Game 4 against the Boston Celtics with a margin of 38 points. It was a crushing defeat for the Celtics in which their woe from the past Kyrie Irving contributed 21 points. Notably, everyone knows the bitter relationship between Irving and the Celtics fans who called the 32-year-old a traitor for leaving their team mid-season in 2019. Though the Mavs guard had his reasons, the fans could not forgive him. Even during the finals series, he was constantly booed. Yet Irving attracted negative attention by wearing shamrock pants on NBA Finals Media Day.
The shamrock was illuminated on the left butt-cheek side of the white pants of Irving. Notably, shamrock is the original logo of the Boston Celtics. Many fans from the Mavs’ opponent’s side noticed this stunt of Irving and called him out for disrespecting their team’s sentiments and culture. However, Irving seemed completely oblivious to the situation during his interview with Fox Sports. When he was asked about the pants, the Mavs guard stated, “I think somebody brought up that I had a shamrock on. I had no idea. Somebody brought it up and I was like, ‘Okaaay?’ …People are staring at my butt. Damn, I’m at a whole new level now.“
Interestingly, Kyrie took it humorously. It was kind of like a narcissistic remark as well as a sarcastic statement for the fans that were now focusing on Irving’s butt. Though it seems like a petty issue to Irving, it surely irked the Celtics fans. For now, the consequences of his doings are just booing and stomping on his idol before Game 1. No one knows what will be the aftermath of his latest remark on the shamrock pants.
