Justin Hartley is struggling now that his 18-year-old daughter Isabella is at college and out of the house.
“It’s tough when they leave,” Hartley said on Thursday’s episode of “The Jennifer Hudson Show.” “You think you’re ready for it because as they get older they gain independence and they’re gone a lot anyway. They have their own friends and their own interests and you can go see them.”
The “This Is Us” actor, 45, admitted that he rarely talks to his teenage daughter on the phone as she prefers to communicate over text.
“When they’re actually gone, it really is a text or a phone call. And you know, she’s 18, so let’s be honest, it’s a text. I’m not getting phone calls, which is normal, but I hate it,” he said.
The “Dream Girls” star told Hartley that she, herself, was not ready for her little one to fly the coop.
“I’m not ready for that! I’ve only got a 13-year-old, but I’m bracing myself for it, ” Hudson said.
But Hartley admitted that there was a positive side to having the kids out of the house and joked, “You have more time to party.”
Hartley shares Isabella with his first wife Lindsay Hartley, whom he was married to from 2004 to 2012.
He was also married to Chrishell Stause from 2017 to 2021. The duo had a rocky breakup with the “Selling Sunset” star, 41, claiming that Hartley had informed her that he was divorcing her via text message.
Hartley has since moved on with his third wife Sofia Pernas. News broke that they tied the knot in March 2021.
Pernas shared her experience with being a stepmom to Hartley’s daughter in an exclusive interview with Page Six.
“She’s so wise. I mean, that girl, she’s got it figured out!” Pernas told us at PaleyFest’s “This Is Us” event in April.
Pernas added, “She knows exactly what she wants. She has a beautiful, wonderful boyfriend. I don’t want to say too much about it because she’s like ‘Ahh!’ but they’re awesome.”
Isabella debuted her new boyfriend on Instagram in November 2021, writing, “you make every day better. im so so lucky.♥️.”
Pernas gushed over Isabella and her boyfriend, saying that they make a great match.
“He’s very smart, she’s very smart. She knows what she wants, and [Justin’s] lucked out,” Pernas said. “It’s rare when you get someone 18 being that precocious about what they want in a partner and not messing up and figuring out from your mistakes later. She’s great.”
