James Gunn Takes A Jab At Star-Lord’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Helmet

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 left many fans wondering where Star-Lord’s helmet was. In a recent post on Twitter, Guardians director James Gunn takes a jab at the decision to include it in Avengers: Infinity War.

Star-Lord’s helmet is one of the most iconic pieces of the character’s costume, which left many fans wondering why Chris Pratt didn’t wear it at any point in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. During a recent Q&A about the film, Guardians helmer James Gunn was asked about the lack of a headpiece, to which he said Peter Quill simply left it in a drawer in Knowhere:

Eagle-eyed fans were quick to point out that the logic of that statement didn’t exactly line up. After all, if the helmet was broken during the climax of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, how would he have it again before the third film even took place? This is where James Gunn’s infamous Twitter shade came into play, saying that Star-Lord “somehow” got the helmet back during Avengers: Infinity War:

It’s clear that, while James Gunn has said he had some influence on the Avengers: Infinity War script when it came to dialogue, the Guardians of the Galaxy director didn’t have as much sway as many would have liked with how the story went down. While the helmet is an iconic piece of Star-Lord’s outfit, the reason it broke in Vol. 2 was important enough that many fans likely would’ve preferred if it didn’t appear and non-fans would’ve have noticed the absence. Regardless, it’s likely Gunn doesn’t hold a burning grudge against the Russo Brothers for their inclusion of the helmet, with this being more of a playful jab at colleagues than anything fans should look too deep into.

What to expect from the third Guadians movie

Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, Will Poulter, Chukwudi Iwuji and Maria Bakalova.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 synopsis reads as follows: “Our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere, but it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life – a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.”
