The CIA staff 3 of Police Commissionerate Ludhiana busted a gang of snatchers with the arrest of four accused, while their three accomplices are yet to be arrested.

The police have recovered 20 mobile phones, which they snatched from commuters, two motorcycles and sharp-edged weapons from their possession.
The arrested accused have been identified as Gaurav Kumar, 22, of Dholewal, Vishal Kumar, 20, of Dholewal, Sumit Kumar, 20, of Janakpuri and Sahil Sharma, alias Noni, 20, of Janakpuri. Their aides who are yet to be arrested are Karan Kumar, Aniket alias Masala and Satish alias Chhotu, all residents of Janakpuri.
Deputy commissioner of police (DCP, investigation) Harmeet Singh Hundal said that the CIA staff 3 police arrested the accused following a tip-off near Sufiyan Chowk. The police received information that the accused are involved in snatchings, and they are going to sell the mobile phones which they have snatched from the commuters.
“All the accused are jobless except Sahil Sharma alias Noni, who works as an assistant with a photographer. Gaurav and Vishal are illiterate, while Sumit and Sahil Sharma are school dropouts,” said the DCP.
“The accused were active in Jalandhar Bypass, Janakpuri, Basti Jodhewal, Chandigarh road, Cheema Chowk, Bus stand, Tajpur road and near Mohan Dei Oswal Cancer Hospital. Vishal is already facing trial in a case of theft,” he added.
Inspector Avtar Singh, SHO at CIA staff 3, said that the accused are drug addicts and indulged in the crime to meet their need for drugs. The accused used to roam around the areas and rob commuters of their mobile phones and other belongings after threatening them with sharp-edged weapons. A hunt is on for the arrest of the rest of the accused.
