Arrow Star Stephen Amell Is Open To Return In James Gunn’s DC Universe

After eleven years, the Arrowverse is finally set to end with the finale of Grant Gustin’s The Flash this May. However, it seems as though the universe’s legacy may not be over. Arrow star Stephen Amell has revealed that he’d be open to reprising his role as Oliver Queen in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe

Stephen Amell left the role of the Green Arrow and the Arrowverse following the end of Arrow with the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event. While he’s mostly found other work since leaving the CW, Amell appears in the final season of The Flash as one final send-off to the universe he helped create. While discussing his return to the Arrowverse, Amell admitted that he’d be open to doing more as his iconic character in the future:

“I love the genre,” Amell told CBR. “I’ve said this before, but there might be more fun stuff to do with Oliver Queen. So we will see.”

From the Arrowverse to the DCU?

Stephen Amell returning as Green Arrow in the DCU would be far from the first time the Arrowverse has crossed paths with big budget DC Comics films. Ezra Miller famously appeared as his version of The Flash during the Crisis on Infinite Earths special, which also featured appearances by Robin actor Burt Ward and the cast of Titans, which had its own ties to the Shazam! films.

The final season of The Flash is set to bring closure to the story of one of the most iconic and beloved characters in the Arrowverse. The series has been a staple of the CW network and has been widely praised for its action sequences and engaging character arcs along with its witty and heartfelt storytelling.

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room and a unified storyline across film, television, animation and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

Ezra Miller’s The Flash movie opens in theaters on June 16, 2023. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe!
