The stakes are high and bets are pouring in for the ongoing UEFA Euro 2024. Fans and pundits alike are making predictions as the tournament heats up. In a surprising turn of events, MMA star Conor McGregor has put a whopping wager of over $60,000 on Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, something which Jose Mourinho won’t approve of.
McGregor, known for having good ties with Os Navegadores’ skipper, is placing a financial bet on his friendship. Interestingly, just like many A-listers and athletes, the Irishman decided to test his wagering skills on the renowned gambling platform Duelbits. He reportedly placed a $60,000 bet on CR7 to become the Golden Boot winner in UEFA Euro 2024, an award given to the player who ends the tournament with the most goals. Surprisingly, if he manages to win the wager, McGregor will receive a boosted payout close to a million, a whopping $900,000 to be precise.
Likewise, he shared the update with his 47.9 million Instagram followers. The Notorious posted three carousel posts with the first and last one being the same picture showcasing the details of his bet. Meanwhile, the middle picture was a candid click with Ronaldo that was taken during the ‘Day Of Reckoning’ event in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, he wrote a caption saying, “60 G’s on @Cristiano to retain his Euro Golden Boot. Siuuu!” Notably, the wager was placed on June 13, just hours before the European competition began.

Either way, it looks like McGregor is optimistic that Ronaldo will become the highest goalscorer in Euro 2024. Remarkably, in the previous edition, the skipper tied with Czech Republic’s Patrick Schick with 5 goals each, resulting in both of them winning the Golden Boot. However, this year, CR7 may not, according to ‘The Special One.’

Despite Conor McGregor’s optimism over Cristiano Ronaldo, Jose Mourinho has a different pick
In a recent interview with TNT Sports, Jose Mourinho participated in a rapid-fire segment where all questions were about the Euros. When asked about the Golden Boot winner, he took the name of his former Tottenham disciple and England’s skipper Harry Kane. The new Fenerbahçe boss surprisingly didn’t back his nation’s iconic striker and also his former Real Madrid disciple. However, the tactician did predict something that may bring a smile to Ronaldo’s face!

Mourinho backed his beloved nation to win the UEFA Euro 2024. Additionally, the former Chelsea boss predicted that England would once again finish as runners-up, who had lost the Euro 2020 finals to Italy. As for the surprise teams, Mourinho added, “A surprise team for me is anyone outside Portugal, France, or England because I think these three are the favorites.” Meanwhile, the rest of his predictions included Jude Bellingham as the best player of the tournament and Vinicius Jr to win the 2024 Ballon d’Or.
While these are some interesting predictions from Jose Mourinho, it remains to be seen whether Conor McGregor and his hefty wager will prove him wrong.
