Trae Young is headed back to the NBA All-Star Game.
The Atlanta Hawks guard was named by the league as a replacement for injured Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo on Monday.
It marks Young’s fourth career All-Star appearance and second straight. The 26-year-old leads the league with 11.4 assists per game while also averaging 23.5 points per contest for a Hawks team that sits ninth in the East at 25-28.
Young was originally displeased when he was not picked for the game through the balloting for the starters or the coaches’ selections of reserve players.
“It’s getting ‘Traed’ at this point,” he wrote on social media, coining a new word in reaction to being snubbed.
Antetokounmpo was forced to pull out of the game on Sunday due to a strained left calf.
He had previously been selected fourth overall in the All-Star draft to play on Charles Barkley’s team in a new format that consists of a four-team tournament with games played up to 40 points.
All-Star festivities at the Golden State Warriors’ Chase Center begin Friday with the celebrity and rising stars games, followed by the dunk contest and three-point shootout on Saturday and the game itself on Sunday.
It also appears the NBA will need another replacement in light of reports Sunday that Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis will be out multiple weeks with an injury suffered in his debut with the team.
