Alex Ovechkin ties Jaromir Jagr for most goalies scored on in NHL history

Connor Ingram, welcome to the list but don’t worry, you’re far from alone.

With 8:55 remaining in the first period of Monday night’s contest between the Washington Capitals and Utah Hockey Club, Alex Ovechkin collected a pass in the slot and fired a wrist shot past Ingram to give his team a 3-1 lead and make some history in the process.

The goal not only was the 867th of The Great 8’s career, but it also moved him into a tie with Jaromir Jagr for most goalies scored on in NHL history at 178.

Ovechkin now has 14 goals this season, taking the NHL lead and moving just 28 markers shy of breaking Wayne Gretzky’s all-time record.

Flordia Panthers forward Sam Reinhart and Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl entered Monday tied with Ovechkin atop the NHL in goal scoring this season.

The 39-year-old has now found the back of the net in eight of his last 11 games this season, including his 31st career hat trick on Sunday against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Of the 178 goalies Ovechkin has scored on, Marc-Andre Fleury has been the most frequent victim, as the Capitals captain has beaten the longtime Pittsburgh Penguins netminder 27 times.

Ovechkin entered the season having scored on 175 different goalies, but with goals against Cayden Primeau on Oct. 31 and Ilya Samsonov on Sunday, Ingram ended up allowing the record-tying goal.

If Ovechkin continues to score at this torrid pace, he could pass Jagr on Thursday when Washington hosts the Colorado Avalanche.

Colorado placed Alexandar Georgiev on injured reserve on Sunday, and neither Justus Annunen nor Kevin Mandolese — the two active goalies on the Avalanche roster — have allowed an Ovechkin goal.

It might be a historic night in a season shaping up to be full of them for the Capitals legend.
