Raiders fire OC Luke Getsy after blowout loss to Bengals

Following a 41-24 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday and falling to 2-7 on the season, it appears the Las Vegas Raiders have decided it’s time for major changes.

The Raiders have fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello following its fifth consecutive loss, the team announced.

Getsy headed an offence that was sputtering through nine weeks and it seems the front office was ready to shake things up. After a 17-point loss in Week 9, the Raiders are averaging 18.7 points per game, 26th in the NFL. Las Vegas also ranks 24th in total yards (2,522), 29th in yards per game (280.2), 31st in rushing yards (656) and last in average rush yards (76.9).

Meanwhile, Scangarello was in charge of a quarterback group that has thrown more interceptions (10) than passing touchdowns (nine) so far, which is a major reason why Las Vegas leads the NFL with 19 giveaways. The offensive line has also underperformed, allowing the fourth-most sacks in the league (30).

Before letting go of Getsy and Scangarello, the Raiders tried some addition by subtraction, trading disgruntled star receiver Davante Adams to the New York Jets, but the move hardly made a difference. Las Vegas has lost three straight games since the deal, and against Cincinnati, it mustered less than 200 yards of passing offence for just two touchdowns. On the other side, Joe Burrow threw for a career-high five touchdowns in the rout.

The Raiders new-look offence will return for Week 10 action on the road against the Miami Dolphins next Sunday.
