Decorated Team Canada forward Melodie Daoust is retiring from her playing career and will transition to a coaching role with Collège Bourget.
Daoust is a former Olympic Games MVP, World Championship All-Star and Best Forward, two-time Olympic gold medalist, and a World Championship gold medalist.
“It’s with a heavy heart that I make this decision, as it signifies the closing of a chapter overflowing and cherished memories, lifelong friendships, countless experiences, lessons and adventures that have shaped me into the person that I am today,” Daoust said. “Although I’m emotional to say goodbye to the game I love, this has truly been the greatest journey of my life.”
Daoust started her career on Canada’s U18 roster and played her collegiate career at McGill University. She was a part of the Montréal Canadiennes CWHL, Team Scotiabank for the PWHPA and the PWHL Montreal squad.
During her time on the Canadian women’s roster, the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Que., native had 4 goals and nine points in 13 games across three Winter Olympic appearances along with six goals and 16 points in 14 games at the Women’s World Championship.
“The future of women’s hockey is shining brighter than ever. As I transition off the ice, I am eager to give back to the sport I love and inspire young athletes to chase the dream that is now possible: playing professional women’s hockey,” Daoust writes. “I am looking forward to being behind the bench at College Bourget this upcoming season and contributing to the development of the next generation of PWHL players.”
