As Alejandro Kirk was reinstated from the injured list, the team placed outfielder Daulton Varsho on the 10-day IL with left wrist inflammation.
In corresponding moves, the Blue Jays recalled utility man Davis Schneider from triple-A and designated backup catcher Tyler Heineman for assignment.

Kirk fractured his left thumb when he was hit by a pitch while catching in a game on April 3. He had surgery on it shortly after and has been making rehab appearances with single-A Dunedin and Buffalo since early June.
The catcher was an all-star for the second time in his career last year but was cold at the plate to begin this season. In five games, he was just three-for-20 with one home run and two walks.
Heineman lost his backup job to Brandon Valenzuela, who has starred for the team since joining in wake of the Kirk injury.
The rookie has a .790 OPS with seven home runs and 18 RBIs in 46 games, while the veteran Heineman has struggled to a .410 OPS in 31 appearances.
Meanwhile, Varsho left last Friday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles with a wrist injury, but MRIs initially came back clean. He’s made two appearances since but has not taken an at-bat. The IL stint is retroactive to June 10.
On the season, Varsho holds a .738 OPS with five home runs in 64 games.
Schneider, meanwhile, returns to the Blue Jays after a 14-game stint in triple-A in which he batted just .188 but held an on-base percentage of .550 thanks to 24 walks in 60 plate appearances.
The 27-year-old struggled at the MLB level this season with an OPS of .506 and just nine hits in 38 games.
