Here’s Everything To Know About The Current Prison Where Karmelo Anthony Is Reportedly Being Held

According to Newsweek, Karmelo Anthony is reportedly being held at the Wallace Pack Unit. Per the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, the prison is for males and has a current capacity of 1,426 inmates. Furthermore, the prison features medical, dental, and mental health departments. Medical care is reportedly available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

In addition, the prison also offers special treatment programs such as a DWI Recovery Program, a Sex Offender Treatment Program, and a Sex Offender Education Program. As for the education programs, “Literacy (Adult Basic Education/GED), CHANGES/Pre-Release, Cognitive Intervention; Career and Technology Programs: Construction Carpentry; Hospitality and Tourism” are offered.

Additional programs offered reportedly include a “faith-based dormitory,” “peer education,” “reentry planning,” and more.

Newsweek reports that Anthony “will stay at the facility.” And the outlet has denied reports alleging that prison warden Tallan Metcalf is related to the family of Austin Metcalf.

“This is false. There is no relation,” a TDCJ reportedly told the outlet.

Furthermore, the outlet adds that the Wallace Pack Unit is a medium security prison. Newsweek reports that the facility has faced lawsuits for “excessive heat and unsafe drinking water.”

More On The Karmelo Anthony Appeal Process

According to the outlet, Karmelo Anthony’s legal team filed their notice of appeal on Wednesday, June 10. Per the outlet, the filing preserves the “defense’s ability to challenge” the 19-year-old’s conviction. Per the outlet, legal experts believe the appeal may argue whether the trial was properly conducted.

Notably, the trial featured an all-white jury. Per Newsweek, three prospective Black jurors had been removed from the case prior to the trial. Defense lawyers reportedly believe this was racially motivated.

Lastly, the outlet notes that the appellate process could take months. Furthermore, or longer.

As The Shade Room previously reported, on Tuesday, June 9, Karmelo Anthony was convicted of first-degree murder. Additionally, he was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
